Easy DIY Chocolate
Making chocolate from scratch is surprisingly easy. Making chocolate with kids is SUPER fun.
In our chocolate-making classes, kids learn the value of making their own candy. When you get to make your own candy, you get to control where the ingredients come from. You also make a difference by eliminating a lot of the single-use plastics used in packaging candy bars and other chocolate treats.
In our chocolate-making classes, I teach kids where chocolate comes from. Cacao comes from a cacao tree and is grown all over the world. It is so much more satisfying to make your own bar of chocolate once you learn how. AND it is sooooo easy and tasty!
We also like to talk about the dangerous effects that white sugar has on our bodies. Today, the world is seeing a health crisis in diabetes. Unfortunately many of these chronic issues are linked back to the amount of white sugar that is in our diets. Even in “healthy” snacks! I encourage kids to read the back of the candy bar they want to buy and ONLY buy it if:
They can pronounce all the ingredients, and
It does not contain a large amount of sugar.
Sugar can lead to childhood obesity, hyperactivity, cavities, reduced immunity, and just in general, a rundown feeling. That happens after sugar hits the blood stream and causes what’s called a sugar “high”—and then a sugar crash.
Children are particularly sensitive to sugar because their bodies are smaller and weigh less. So a little bit goes a long way!
Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity this holiday season and make some chocolate for your friends and family.
